Miss Gidcumb, Wells united in marriage

Emily Gidcumb and Micah Wells, both of Murfreesboro, were recently united in marriage during a candlelight ceremony at Exchange Street Church of Christ in Union City.
The double-ring ceremony was performed by Barry Phelps of Manchester, long-time friend and minister of the groom’s family.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Gidcumb and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Higgins and the late Jean Gidcumb, all of Union City. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Perry Wells and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Gale Wells, all of Manchester, and the late Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Carter of Murfreesboro.
Beautiful winter greens with nandina berries and white velvet iridescent ribbon adorned the front doors, as well as each of the handrails and light posts. The engagement picture of the bride and groom was placed on the register table for guests to sign and was flanked by a floral arrangement of Black Magic roses, lemon leaf and curly willow in a silver trumpet vase. The wedding programs, designed by the bride, were displayed in a round hand-blown cut crystal bowl. Pamela Bartholomew, friend of the bridal couple, of Brentwood was the attendant for the register table.
Black wrought iron lanterns with winter greens, holly berries and white ribbon flanked the entrance to the church. A white runner that had the initials of the bride and groom painted in black script letters and arrangements placed on the pews of hydrangeas, white roses, magnolia leaves and hypericum berries with white satin ribbons decorated the center aisle of the church.
Each of the lovely stained-glass window sills in the church held three black pillar holders with ivory candles, magnolia leaves, holly and nandina berries. Placed on each side at the front of the church were large black urns filled with jumbo white hydrangeas, white calla lilies, white roses, Bells of Ireland, lemon leaf, winter greens, curly willow and red hypericum berries.
Guests were ushered by Conner Lawrence, cousin of the bride, of Franklin and Derrick Gregory, brother-in-law of the groom, of Lexington, Ky.
Serving as honorary bridesmaids were Kasey Miller, childhood friend of the bride, of Chatham, Ill., and Pamela Bartholomew of Brentwood and Lauren Brannon Hughes of Alamo, college friends of the bride. They wore a black dresses of their choice.
Lindsey Gidcumb of Paris served her sister as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Carley May, cousin of the bride, of Paris; Coty Wells Gregory, sister of the groom, of Lexington, Ky.; and Laura Humphrey, college friend, of Lancaster, S.C. Taylor Lawrence, cousin of the bride, of Franklin was the junior bridesmaid. They wore White House Black Market strapless dresses exquisitely tailored with straight skirts and side-swept pleats in black satin. They carried nosegays of white roses, black magic roses and hypericum berries tied with white satin ribbon.
Makayla Lindsey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Brandon Lindsey of Evansville, Ind., served as flower girl. She carried a kissing ball of holly and berries.
Camron Phelps, childhood friend of the groom, of Smyrna was the best man. Serving as groomsmen were friends of the groom, Brandon Malone, Jonathan Pope and Andrew Hooper, all of Murfreesboro. The groomsmen wore two-button black suits with red ties and boutonnières of mini calla lilies with red hypericum berries.
Reed Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ryan Miller of Chatham, served as ring bearer.
Prelude music included “Ave Maria” by Schubert, “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Weiss, “In This Very Room” by Harris, “What a Wonderful World” by Douglas & Weiss and “Someone to Watch Over Me” by Gershwin. “Surely the Presence” by Wolfe was sung by Mindy Coursey of Obion, a friend of the bride’s family.
“Air on the G String” by Bach was played during the seating of the grandparents. Mrs. Higgins, grandmother of the bride, was lovely in a two-piece teal and black ensemble. Mrs. Wells, grandmother of the groom, was beautiful in her fuchsia two-piece ensemble. Both grandmothers wore corsages of red roses and winter greens.
“Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” by Bach was played while the groom escorted his mother to her seat and the father of the bride escorted the mother of the bride. The groom’s mother was lovely in a silver two-piece ensemble of shantung silk that was adorned with beautiful embroidery on the collar and a jeweled button closure on the jacket. The mother of the bride was elegant wearing a two-piece Daymor Couture ensemble of black taffeta with a portrait collar and ruched waist that was adorned with a crystal buckle. Both mothers carried nosegays of red and white roses with winter greens and berries.
The minister, groom and groomsmen entered the church from the side entrance just prior to the beautiful bridesmaids making their way down the aisle to “Canon in D” by Pachelbel.
The stunning bride was given in marriage by her parents and was escorted by her father as she entered the beautifully-decorated church to the “Bridal Chorus” by Wagner. She chose a beautiful Anne Barge silk gazar gown in candlelight with an A-line silhouette with a ruched bodice and buttons that cascaded down to a small chapel train. The bride selected a Paloma Blanca three-tiered fingertip-length veil in diamond dust made of bridal illusion with vermicelli edge. She wore red Lucchese cowboy boots, a gift from the groom, and carried a blue embroidered handkerchief that had been made by her great-grandmother. The bride’s bouquet included Black Magic roses, red roses, red tulips, red calla lilies and red hypericum berries and was hand-tied with a white satin bow. An elegant paisley-shaped silver broach adorned the bridal bouquet in memory of her paternal grandmother.
A prayer of blessings for the couple was offered by the uncle of the bride, Jimmy May of Paris.
During the lighting of the unity candle, Ms. Hughes sang “Grow Old With Me” by Lennon. After the pronouncement of marriage, the bride and groom, along with the wedding party, exited the church to the “Wedding March” by Mendelssohn. The bridal couple departed to an array of beautiful sparklers as they entered an awaiting limo.
A reception was held at Celebration Centré in Union City.
The newlyweds and their guests entered a winter wonderland to enjoy the evening. The front door of the center had a beautiful moss-covered “W” tied with white satin ribbon that was specially made by the aunt of the bride, Sondra Lawrence of Franklin.
The entrance of the reception hall displayed a life-size bridal portrait on the beautiful stone wall draped by a garland of winter greens and ribbon. The gift table was adorned with a beautiful white bird cage decorated with roses and calla lilies for guests to place cards in.
The bride’s red cowboy boots from her childhood were displayed, along with a collage of photos of the bride with her red Lucchese boots that she wore for the occasion.
The tables in the event hall were covered with beautiful white linens and draped with black satin table runners. Black chair covers tied with white organza sashes surrounded the beautifully-decorated tables. The head table was draped with a tablecloth that had the couple’s initials painted in large black script letters. A lovely arrangement of white hydrangeas, red roses, red tulips and red hypericum berries with winter greens accented the center of the table. Red charger plates and ivory colonnade candles surrounded by beautiful wreaths of white and silver crystals flanked the floral arrangement.
Other tables in the reception area were decorated with cylinder vases containing “snow”-covered branches with red roses tucked in the branches, as well as cylinder vases with floating cranberries topped with arrangements containing hydrangeas, black magic roses, red tulips, lemon leaf, hypericum berries and winter greens. Large glimmering snowflakes hung from the ceiling and several wreaths made from white iridescent netting with magnolia leaves decorated the walls. Beautiful shimmering fabric was hung from the dance floor with mirrored spheres hanging from each corner and in the center.
Music enjoyed by the guests was provided by a DJ. As the bride and groom took to the dance floor for their first dance as husband and wife, “At Last” by Etta James was played. The bride and her father danced to “What a Wonderful World” by Louie Armstrong. They were joined shortly by the groom and his mother as the music continued.
Guests enjoyed an array of lovely hors d’oeuvre, which included tenderloin on a roll, cornbread barbecue chicken, a potato bar, hot seafood dip, hot onion dip with chips, various cheese and crackers and fruits and vegetables with dip, along with coffee and tea.
The bride and groom cut their beautiful four-layer cake to the tune of “Pour Some Sugar on Me” by Def Leppard. The cake layers were covered with beautiful diamond dust fondant, with each layer being wrapped by a fondant black ribbon and adorned by jeweled broaches.
The groom’s chocolate cake was a replica of an Atlanta Braves jersey and the table was decorated with ornaments depicting the Atlanta Braves logo hand-painted by Reba Harris of Union City.
A “Sweet Beginnings” candy table was beautifully-decorated with apothecary jars of various designs and sizes that were full of goodies for the guests to take as favors. The table was decorated with beautiful red satin fabric, oversized peppermint candy ornaments and a beautiful floral arrangement in a cut glass crystal vase that contained red and white roses and a mix of winter greens.
The bridal couple honeymooned in Cancun and are currently residing in Murfreesboro.
A rehearsal dinner was hosted by the parents of the groom at the Pardue Barn in Troy. Grilled tenderloin, twice-baked potatoes, tossed salad and green beans, along with delicious rolls and desserts from the Patch House in Manchester, which is owned by the groom’s parents, were enjoyed by all guests.
The bride and groom chose this time to present gifts to the wedding party.
Out-of-town guests for the wedding were treated to a lovely brunch, hosted by the parents of the bride, on Sunday.
