Hello, All. I hope that all of you had a great holiday season. I do hope each of you got to spend some time with family and friends. We had a lot of things going on this past month, so it seems like forever that I have gotten to write some news to you. I know everyone is trying to stay warm because the weather has been pretty harsh. Remember the old saying; “Keep something on your head and hands.” This does work and you don’t want to miss anything.
We enjoyed meeting our new friends at the Christmas Luncheon, which was held on the University of Tennessee at Martin campus.
I want to thank everyone involved for making our luncheon come off as well as it did. It takes a lot of people behind the scenes to accomplish such a great task. We want to thank the staff at the Parks and Recreation office, UT Martin staff, First State Bank and, of course, all of our new sponsors in getting this project completed. We were happy to have the Hinkle Family from Decatur, TX for our entertainment. They did a wonderful job despite the sudden loss of their daughter due to a car accident. Our prayers and thoughts go out to the Hinkle Family.
This year we started out with a bang. We have some new things which we are working on and want you to be a part of it. We have started our twice a week exercise program. Trina has something new everyday concerning the exercise group.
This group is growing larger each week. You are welcome to exercise with the group at 10 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, or come work out in our exercise room with all of our equipment. You are welcome to use the equipment and exercise room Monday through Friday. If you are 55 or up you can start your new year off by keeping fit and healthy.
On Jan. 4, David Spencer from Woodmen of the World was here and called Bingo for all who wanted to play. We always have a large crowd with David in the house. On Jan. 10, Sara from Cane Creek was here to spend some quality time with all of us plus she also supplied the Bingo gifts.
We need to remind everyone of our monthly potluck on Jan. 20 which starts at 11:30 a.m.
We will celebrate all December and January birthdays on the same day. Bring a dish and come join the fun.
Our quilters meet every Thursday about 8:30 a.m. We are looking for some new folks to teach and meet.
We have a very nice and fun group of quilters. Let me remind you that you do not have to know anything about quilting. The ladies enjoy teaching everyone this great old art. You are welcome to come check this out.
Mark your calendars for our Valentine Party on Feb. 14. Also, again this year, we will host an annual Black History Celebration on Feb. 23. Check our calendars for times of these events. Plus, don’t miss the opportunity to come be with us.
We are announcing a shopping trip for everyone. This spring get your traveling shoes on. We are offering a five day/four nights Branson Show Extravaganza.
This will include motor coach transportation, eight meals, four breakfasts and four dinners. Also, with this price you will get to see seven fabulous Branson shows. We have all the information at the center. Come by or call Trina and she will try to answer any questions you may have. Bring your spouse, friends or even your church group. This is going to be great fun.
Be looking for information on our new art class that will be starting in March.
I hope to see you there. Stop by and get your monthly newsletter and monthly calendar that will tell you everything going on at the center and even some of the last-minute events we have added.
You are welcome to just come check us out and look around. We enjoy everyone.
Until next month, be safe. wcp 1/18/11
