A very nice bridge game was held last Tuesday night at 6 p.m. Sixteen players filed into the room arriving right on time. We had four full tables in play and were delighted to have a brand new guest join us. Butch Brion from McKenxie came to play with us. The director obtained Dr. Tom Mayo to come and play with him. When the game was over, low and behold Butch and Dr. Tom emerged as 1st place winners. Of course, they were pleased. 2nd place went to Linda Jennings and Becky Bennett, 3rd to Diana Nerren and Margie Evans and 4th Reba Nell Brasfield and Bertha Henry.
Susie German served the dessert for the evening. It was a brownie truffle and the most delicious dessert one has ever eaten. Made of Cool Whip, Philadelphia Cream Cheese, whipped cream, vanilla and chocolate pudding and a whole 9 x 13 chocolate brownie cake. All went back for second helpings.
At a White Houseluncheon given by President Harry Truman, his daughter had General Dwight D. Eisehower as her luncheon partner. When Ike came up to join her, she was chatting with Mrs. Preston, Grover Cleveland’s widow who had remarried, and though Margaret introduced him to the former First Lady, he didn’t seem to realize who she was. “And where did you live in Washington, ma’am?” he asked , joining in the conversation. She looked at him demurely. “In the White House,” she said, as the General’s face fell.
Dresden’s Wednesday afternoon club met and with all this extremely cold weather, our attendance was a little bit down. Although, it did not deter Dr. Bob Sanner, U. C., from attending. He is not afraid of a little ice and snow (being from Pennsylvania) and besides that, it was his birthday and too cold to play golf. He just needed a good “Happy Birthday” song.
We had four and a half tables and missed Jack Bogue. Jack was having eye surgery. He’ll be fine next week.
Things to eat were impressive. chicken salad, cheese squares with corn chips, spinach dip with santitas, apple, raison dip with vanilla wafers and Double Stuffed Oreo™ with lots of good hot coffee.
Winners weere 1st Carol Ehlers and Jackye Hohman, 2nd Toni Pritchett and Freddye Oliver, 3rd Carolyn Rogers, Ruthie Jenkins and 4th Serena Williams and Jo Glasgow.
