Civil Air Patrol

will be chartered

On Saturday, Jan. 15 at 11 a.m., the new Everett Stewart Composite Unit of the Civil Air Patrol will be chartered. There will be a special ceremony including the seating of the Commander for the Unit, at the Everett Stewart Regional Airport in Union City.

The Civil Air Patrol is the official auxiliary of the United States Air Force, and its three missions are cadet programs, aerospace education and emergency services. The CAP teaches leadership principles, military customs and courtesy and search and rescue techniques.

will meet Jan. 17

The James Buckley Chapter  of DAR will meet at the home of Emily Shore at 10 a.m., Jan. 17. Bring gifts for veteran’s shower. 


Day of remembrance

honors Dr. King

On Monday, Jan. 17, 2011 The County and Community Outreach Committee would like to invite everyone to come out to a day of rememberance and honor in memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Beginning at 10 a.m. at 120 “K” Street members of our county and community will march together representing the dream and unity displayed by the life and legacy of Dr. King and the Civil Rights’ Movement. They will march from 120 “K” Street to 120 South Street. (From the former Oak Grove M.B. Church to the new Oak Grove M.B. Church.) The theme for this occasion is The Dream: Remember It: Acknowledge It: Achieve It: At 12 p.m. at Oak Grove there will be a service of celebration. This service is for everyone to attend.  The keynote speaker will be the Rev. Daniel Donaldson, minister of Salem Baptist Church in Humboldt.


Living Well 

Workshop set

Come join the “Living Well with Chronic Conditions Workshop.” This is a free six-week workshop that will allow individuals to gain skills necessary to self-image their health condition more effectively.

Classes will be held from 9-11:30 a.m. each Thursday, Jan. 17-March 3 at the Weakley County Office on Aging in Dresden. Space is limited so please call 587-4213 to sign up or for any information. If no answer, please leave a message.

Valentine Dance

planned for Jan. 27

Dresden Senior Citizen Center is planning a fundraiser Valentine Dance from 7 -10 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 27 at 589 Evergreen Street in Dresden. The dance will feature Larry Frye Band. Admission is $5, there will be door prizes and refreshments will be available.



Pancake breakfast

The Fulton Order of the Eastern Star is hosting their annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, February 5 at 6 a.m. – 11 a.m.  The breakfast is at the Masonic Lodge, above the former Fulton Furniture on Walnut Street.  The public is invited to this all you can eat pancake breakfast.  The tickets are $4 and can be purchased from any Fulton members or at the door.
