A structure fire Monday evening is under investigation by the Martin Fire Department, Martin Police Department and the State Fire Marshal’s office after evidence gathered at the scene and away from the scene that deemed arson as the most probable cause of the fire, according to a press release issued by the MPD on Wednesday.
The MFD was paged to 313 S. College St. around 6:45 p.m. on Monday for a structure fire at the location.
Smoke was emanating from the north side of the triplex when fire personnel arrived on the scene. The fire broke out on the first floor of the building.
The MFD managed to extinguish the fire within an hour and began overhaul of the buiding to determine the cause of the blaze.
Personnel were on the scene until approximately 9:30 that evening.
The triplex is owned by Doug Barner of Smith Road in Martin. None of the four tenants who were home at the time were injured during the incident.
The fire is still under investigation at this time.
