The Dresden Lady Lions wasted no time in taking control in their 72-18 win over Bruceton’s Lady Tigers Tuesday night.
The Dresden boys earned the sweep with a 60-48 win over the host Tigers.
In the girls game, the Lady Lions tallied more points in the opening frame (32) than Bruceton managed over the entire contest. The 32-point eruption in the opening quarter eclipsed the total Dresden has scored in three complete games this season.
While the visitors were unstoppable on offense in 32 points in the game’s first eight minutes, the DHS defense was also doing its share of the work. Thanks to the vise-tight Dresden defense the Lady Tigers were held to single-digit production in all four quarters. Bruceton tallied seven points in the opening quarter, four points in the second quarter, only two points in the third before notching five points in the fourth.
Meanwhile the Lady Lion offense posted double-digit point totals in each quarter. In addition to the opening 32, Dresden posted 11 in the second quarter, 15 in the third and a dozen in the fourth quarter.
Freshman Amy McAlpin topped all scorers with 18 points, while teammate Jessica Jones added 15.
In the boys game, the Lions built their lead over the first half, survived a third-quarter Tiger surge and then took the 60-48 win.
The Lions led 15-9 after a quarter and 30-22 at halftime. Bruceton put up one more point that DHS in the third before Dresden finished strong, outscoring the Tigers 14-9 in the fourth.
The Lions were led in scoring by senior Daniel Harris, while Tyler McPeak controlled the paint to post 14 points for Dresden.
