MEMPHIS (AP) — A former public schoolteacher and coach in Martin has been sentenced to five years in prison on his guilty plea to having sex with a student.
Stanley Wren Vickers was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Bernice Donald in Memphis on Tuesday to 77 months in prison and 35 years of supervision after his release.
The Commercial Appeal reported prosecutors ac-cused the 45-year-old Vickers of using “dares and bets” to entice a then-14-year-old boy into sex acts at various places in Tennessee; Paducah, Ky.; and St. Louis. The abuse continued from 2002 to 2005.
The boy was a member of a soccer team Vickers coached at Martin Middle School. He transferred to Westview High School when the student went there.
