Completed arrangements are being announced for Norman E. “Gene” Smith, 84, of South Fulton, who died 8:25 p.m. Jan. 10, 2011, at Jackson Purchase Medical Center in Mayfield, Ky.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hornbeak Funeral Home in Fulton, with Dr. Ron Cox officiating. Burial will follow in Fulton in Pleasant Hill Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the hour of services Thursday.
The family requests that memorials be made to South Fulton Baptist Church building fund, 509 Forestdale Ave., South Fulton, TN 38257.
He was born July 26, 1926, in Calloway County, Ky., son of the late Robert B. and Ola Fly (Houston) Smith. He married the former Barbara Wilson Vaughn Oct. 14, 1988. She survives. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and was a Baptist. He had been employed as an electrician for Bakery and Confectionary International and was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 2 in Detroit. He had lived in this area most of his life.
Survivors also include his daughter, Linda Yokubison of Detroit; his son and daughter-in-law, Robert B. and Tammy Smith of Greenfield, Ind.; his stepson, Greg Vaughn of Paducah, Ky.; five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and two brothers, W.T. Smith of Detroit and Bob Smith of Florida.
He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Frances Dunn, Sue Davis and Marie Dunn.
