MARTIN, Tenn. – The Ohio Valley Conference announced Monday that Heather Butler, the point guard on the women’s basketball team at The University of Tennessee at Martin, has been named Freshman of the Week.
Butler has earned the league’s Freshman of the Week four consecutive times and five out of eight weeks. Her teammates Beth Hawn (Nov. 14) and Jasmine Newsome (Dec. 6) have also earned the accolade this season giving UT Martin the Freshman of the Week honor seven out of eight weeks this season.
This past week, Butler scored 29 points and made seven three-pointers against Louisville. It was the second straight game she made seven treys and tied the school record for three-pointers made in a single game. The 5-6 freshman from Medina scored 12 points against No. 11 Kentucky to close out 2010. On the week, Butler went 9-of-21 from behind the arc and played all 40 minutes in each game (Louisville and Kentucky)
Butler and the Skyhawks return to action this Thursday, Jan. 6, when they host the Austin Peay Lady Govs in the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
