The family of T Joe and Verna Walker cordially invite everyone to attend the celebration of their 65th wedding anniversary to be held from 2-4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 15, at the Martin Church of Christ Fellowship Hall.
In honor of the Walkers’ long tradition of loyalty to their church, family and community, the family will host a cake and punch reception, and everyone is encouraged to attend. No invitations are being sent, and they humbly request that no gifts be brought as the Walkers attest the love and companionship of family and friends has been the greatest of all gifts.
Joe and Verna first saw each other at a singing event in 1943, and then corresponded for two years while Joe served in WWII. He returned home Jan. 6, 1946, and the couple was married four days later on Jan. 10, in Martin.
They initially lived in Latham but moved to Martin in 1948, where they have resided to this day.
Both now retired, Joe spent 49 years in the maintenance department at The University of Tennessee at Martin, while Verna was a fixture for 33 years at Martin Manufacturing Company.
The couple has two daughters, Shelia (Thompson) and Sylvia (Kemp), seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one step great-great grandchild.
Come be a part of this joyous celebration of the Walkers and all they have meant to their family and community.
