The Westview Lady Chargers took control in crunch time to fend off county foe Gleason, 49-37, in the semifinals of the 46th Annual Martin Lions Club Christmas Tournament Wednesday night in Martin.
The score was knotted at 30-all when the final quarter began. Westview got the first five points of the frame on a Breanna Pitcher 3-pointer and a baseline jumper by Teddy Vincent. The Lady Dawgs had an answer when Ashley Coble scored on a putback.
Four different players scored as Westview went on an 8-3 run to move ahead 43-35. Coble’s fourth trey of the game provided the only GHS points.
Taylor Swaim hit six consecutive free throws in the final 52 seconds to seal Westview’s 49-37 win.
Coble was  hot from behind the arch in the first quarter, drilling a trio of 3-pointers. Camille Cooper also added one in the first for GHS as the Lady Dawgs, thanks to good ball movement, held a 16-12 lead after a quarter.
Turnovers late in the second quarter kept Gleason from expanding its lead for a slim 23-21 halftime edge.
Coble topped all scorers with 14 points. Pitcher, Kaley Leyhue and Vincent each scored 11 for WHS.
