MPD: The Martin Police Department is recording another successful year in keeping drunk drivers off the roadways over the New Year holiday.

The safety bus picked up approximately 100 people around Martin over New’s Year’s Eve and early New Year’s Day. As a result of this effort, the police department had no DUI arrests for the entire night.

WCSD: The Weakley County Sheriff’s Department strongly warns county residents that several cases of mailbox vandalisms have taken place over the last few weeks.

The department is currently working on leads that have been developed and would appreciate anyone offering assistance in the matter. A Crimestoppers award is being offered for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone responsible.

MFD: The Martin Fire Department has been awarded a $475,000 FEMA grant from the Department of Homeland Security.

If the grant is accepted by the Martin Board of Mayor and Aldermen, the goal is to use the funds to purchase another ladder truck to replace a 1988 model truck currently in use.

The department will present the information to the Martin City Board during an informal session planned for 5:15 this evening in the courtroom.
