Two drivers sustained injuries in a four-vehicle chain reaction crash Wednesday afternoon in the 800 block of West Reelfoot Avenue in Union City.
Jacob Edward Jones, 16, of 3968 Cardinal Drive, Union City, and Kevin Michael Bowden, 50, of 1908 East Old Troy Road, Union City, were both taken by ambulance to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City for treatment following an accident that occurred about 1:20 p.m. in front of Lowe’s.
According to a Union City Police Department report released today, Jones told police he was westbound on West Reelfoot Avenue when he looked away from the road for a moment and looked back up to see Bowden stopped in traffic. Jones could not avoid making contact and his 1999 Chevrolet pickup struck Bowden’s 2003 Toyota pickup, which was knocked forward into a 2004 Ford pickup driven by Richard E. Tipton, 36, of 3126 Dogwood Drive, Cape Girardeau, Mo. Tipton’s vehicle, in turn, was knocked forward into a 2000 Plymouth Neon driven by Mark Anthony Roberson, 23, of 1331 Hillsboro, Union City.
No injuries were reported to Tipton, Roberson or Roberson’s passenger.
Jones was charged with following too closely, no seat belt and no proof of insurance, while Roberson was also charged with no proof of insurance, according to the police report.
