A Union City man died early New Year’s Day in a single-vehicle traffic accident in neighboring Weakley County.
Travis Austin Taylor, 22, died as the result of a crash that occurred around 2 a.m. Saturday on Hyndsver Road, about a half-mile east of Martin.
He was a student at the University of Tennessee at Martin and had graduated from Obion County Central High School.
Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Mike Ford reported Taylor was traveling on Hyndsver Road just outside Martin when his 2005 Ford F-150 pickup truck went off the roadway. The vehicle went off the right side and the driver apparently overcorrected, with the vehicle then going off the left side of the roadway, striking a tree head-on and overturning.
Ford said he did not think alcohol was a factor in the accident, but he said heavy rains and slick roads might have played a part.
Funeral services for Taylor were scheduled for this afternoon, with White-Ranson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements
