Haslam retains Haston as Adjutant General

Nashville – Tennessee Governor-elect Bill Haslam this week announced Major General Terry “Max” Haston will continue as Adjutant General of the Tennessee Military Department, commonly known as the Tennessee National Guard.

First appointed during January of this year, Haston supervises the Military Department, which includes the Army National Guard, Air National Guard, Tennessee Emergency Management Agency and the Tennessee State Guard.

Before his appointment earlier this year, Haston served as the Assistant Adjutant General, Army and as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Training and Operations J-3 for the Joint Forces Headquarters, Tennessee.

“First, I’m grateful that Maj. Gen. Haston chose his life of service to his country and state, and second, I’m very grateful that he’s staying on as Adjutant General,” Haslam said. 

“He is well-respected and has the right experience to oversee the state’s Military Department.”

Haston is a McMinnville native and has a master’s degree in Strategic Studies from the United States War College at Carlisle Barracks in Pennsylvania. 

In May 2005, he mobilized and deployed as the Chief of Reserve Components, Multi-National Corps Iraq (XVIII Airborne Corps).

“It is an absolute honor to serve with Gov.-elect Haslam in his administration, and I’m blessed to continue serving Tennesseans and representing the 15,000 Army and Air National Guard members we have around the state,” Haston said. 

“Somebody in my family has served here in the National Guard for 86 years, and I’m proud to be a part of the tradition.”

Haston, 53, is married to Anne, and they have a son, Travis. 

They attend Central Baptist Church of Bearden in Knoxville.
