Completed arrangements are being announced for Alvin Henry Long Sr., 76, of Rives, who died Dec. 28, 2010, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at White-Ranson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robin Rotgers officiating. Burial will follow in Cane Creek Cemetery near Rives.
There will be a military honor guard.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home 5-8 p.m. Friday.
The family requests that memorials be made to Greater Vision Pentecostal Church in Troy.
He was born Nov. 23, 1934, in Obion County, son of the late James William and Flora Ann (Rutledge) Long. He married the former Joyce Ann Robertson Sept. 30, 1956. She survives.
He had been employed as a U.S. Postal carrier for 18 years and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, having served for 10 years and earning the status of disabled veteran.
He was a member of Star of Bethlehem Church.
Survivors also include two sons, Alvin Long Jr. of Union City and Darrell Long of Rives; his granddaughter, Amanda Nicole Long of Rutherford; his sister, Mary Ann Morrison of Martin; his brother, Buford Long of Union City; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by five sisters, Novella Long, Polkie Lee Coday, Catherine E. Sanders, Robbie Christine Wholf and Martha Rose Long; and four brothers, Finis G. Long, Harris B. Long, James M. Long and Woodrow Long.
