A late-night wreck involving a tractor-trailer rig closed a portion of U.S. 51 South in Hickman County, Ky., just one mile north of the Fulton County, Ky., line.
The crash occurred just after 11 p.m. Tuesday on U.S. 51, according to a news release from the Kentucky State Police.
Steven Starling, 46, of Bowie, Texas, was northbound in a 2005 Freightliner when the vehicle dropped off the right shoulder of the roadway, causing the semi to overturn. The vehicle came to final rest on the passenger side in a ravine off the side of the highway.
Starling, who was reported to be wearing a seat belt, was treated for injuries at the scene by Fulton County EMS.
The semi was loaded with about 7,500 pounds of tomato sauce, the KSP reported. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet assisted with shutting down U.S. 51 around the accident site for 7 1/2 hours while the semi was removed.
The KSP was also assisted at the scene by Fulton County Rescue, Fulton County EMS and Hickman County Rescue.
The news release did not list any charges being levied against Starling.
