What a wonderful week at Van Ayer Healthcare & Rehab! We had several activities and events held at our facility in regards to the Christmas holiday. We all enjoy the holidays and love to have parties in celebration of health, love, and friendship. Our residents, their family members, and our staff have had a busy week preparing for Christmas, but all the hard work was worth all happiness that filled the air at our facility! We hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year!

On Tuesday, Dec. 21, we held our annual resident Christmas party in our beautiful dining room that has been decorated for the holiday season. Cake, ice cream, and punch were served to all the residents and their family. Our residents have also been practicing very hard over the past few weeks to be able to play hand bells for everyone in attendance at the party. They did a wonderful job and the music was beautiful! Thank you to each one who performed in this event. The residents also baked delicious cookies to be served at the party. Santa and Mrs. Claus also made a trip to our facility away from their busy schedules to help pass out the Christmas gifts to our residents. The residents had a wonderful time and we feel truly blessed to have each and everyone here to enjoy the holiday season!

On Thursday, Dec. 23, the facility’s Department Heads cooked a delicious breakfast for the residents and staff. Pancakes, waffles, bacon, sausage, country ham, hash browns, eggs, biscuits, toast, and home-made gravy were served for breakfast. Pajamas were worn by all residents and staff, just like Christmas morning! Thank you to all who helped set up, cook, deliver, and clean up the prepared meal.

During this week, our residents also participated in their daily activities that included BINGO, Cooking Class, Hang Man, and a Spelling Bee. A few of next week’s activities include BINGO, Trivia, UNO, and Manicures. A New Years Eve party will also be held on Friday, Dec. 31.

Our Administrator, Larry Sherwood, our Admissions Coordinator, Buffy Crawford, RN, and Santa visited Volunteer Community Hospital this week. Santa had his bag full of toys to be given to the children that are in the hospital over the Christmas holiday. It was a joy to see all the smiling faces as we strode down the halls. We want to wish those in the hospital over the holidays a speedy recovery!
