December was filled with decorating trees, wrapping presents, caroling, special arts and crafts and eating good food. To start the holiday season off we decorated three trees around the facility. One tree was a special one that our residents decorated in the activity room with ornaments we made. Another one in the dining room we decorated red, silver and gold. Then, we decorated a 12-foot tree in the main lobby. It was blue, silver and white. Everyone seemed to love the trees. We also did something special this year by decorating every door in the facility. Employees sponsored a door and went to town on decorating them. The residents and family members even got involved in the decorating.

Arts and crafts this month we made gingerbread houses, a mitten wreath, ornaments for the tree, a snowman wind chime and a manger.

We also had a day where we drank hot chocolate and ate Christmas cookies. Also, to stay in the spirit, we watched Christmas classics like Rudolph, Frosty the Snowman, the Grinch, A Christmas Story, Santa Clause, A White Christmas and It’s a Wonderful Life. We also had several groups who came and sang Christmas carols.

Our big party was just that….Santa and his elves showed up with a bag full of presents for everyone!!! The tables were decorated with snowflakes, Santa hats, snowmen and little trees. We had the hallway filled with goodies for everyone to eat. Residents and family members were served by the staff. After we were thorugh eating all the good food, Santa and his elves passed out presents. Santa must have done a good job because everyone was so pleased with their gifts. The party ended with the youth from Oak Grove caroling several songs for us. Everyone loved that.

The Bingo winners were Wilma Whipple, Sandra Winston, Elizabeth Flowers, Vivian Hubbard, Eunice Young, Beulah Wheeler, Nannie Roach, Fred Jones, Effie Wilson and Daisy Blackburn. Yahtzee winners were Sandra Winston, Elizabeth Flowers and Patricia Duncan. The monthly birthdays were Fred Jones, Ruby Bowden, Lena Suddath, Joyce Barton, Royce Eaves, Vera Robinson, Norma Wilson, Eunice Young, Harold Conner, Daisy Blackburn, Ralph Hughey and Versie Terrell.

We had two special anniversaries this month –Arthur and Linda Davis and Orrin and Jesse Snider.

From everyone at Martin Health Care, have a Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year!!!
