A Union City man has been charged with assaulting a local senior citizen with her own walking cane at her home Tuesday evening.
Danny Mose White of 1714 High School Drive, Union City, was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault at 5:50 p.m. at a residence in the 100 block of South Third Street in Union City.
According to a Union City Police Department report, police had responded just after 5 p.m. to 601 High St., where officers found the back door open and resident Betty Gus Mosier, 78, sitting in her kitchen in her power chair “bleeding profusely” from her head and arm, but conscious.
Ms. Mosier, who alleged White had attacked her with her walking stick, was taken by ambulance to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City for treatment.
Ms. Mosier told police she was sitting at her kitchen table about 4:50 p.m. when White knocked on the door and she allowed him inside. She indicated she has known him about two years and sometimes allows him to do yard work for her. She said after talking for a few minutes, White went behind her to the kitchen sink to get a drink of water. She told police her wooden walking cane was hanging from the sink and she claimed White picked it up and started hitting her in the head with it.
The victim told police she tried to grab the stick and was hit in the arm and hand, and she alleged she was hit several times before White left her home, according to the report.
A short time later, police found White sitting on the front steps of the home on South Third Street, where he was taken into custody on the charge.
Police reported White was later taken to the local hospital for treatment of another matter.
