Heather Butler
MARTIN, Tenn. – Freshman Heather Butler scored a career-high 37 points and made seven 3-pointers to lead The University of Tennessee at Martin women’s basketball team to 89-78 victory over visiting Murray State Wednesday night in the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center.
Butler’s 37 points are the most by a freshman in a single game this season and are the eighth-most points scored by a Division I player this season.
Butler’s seven 3-pointers in a single game are also among the nation’s best. Two players have made nine 3-pointers in a game this season, while five players have made eight treys in a game. Butler is one of 29 Division I players to make seven 3-pointers in a game this season.
TCU senior Emily Carter scored 43 points and made seven 3-pointers on Nov. 17 against SMU and holds the record for the most points scored in a single game this season in Division I women’s basketball.
Butler’s career-high 37 points were three shy of tying UT Martin’s school record for most points in a game (40 by Mary Kate Long vs. Troy State on Jan. 21, 1989).
Butler’s seven 3-pointers tied the UT Martin school record for most 3-pointers in a game (seven by Kelly Pendleton at North Carolina on Jan. 7, 2002).
The Skyhawk women return to action tonight (Tuesday) when they play at Louisville.
