FORT KNOX, Ky. (AP) — The Patton Museum at Fort Knox will only be open a few more days before it begins a three-month, $1.25 million transformation.
The 61-year-old museum will be closed Saturday to March 31 for repairs and upgrades. At the same time, the museum is building exhibits to highlight Army leadership from 1775 to the present. Also to be included are the major organizations that are now at Fort Knox largely due to the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure law.
That law also is moving armor training to Fort Benning, Ga., but a new gallery will feature the branch as it presents Fort Knox’s history, beginning in 1918.
The museum is home to the artifact collection of legaendary Army general George S. Patton Jr.
The Patton Museum is scheduled to reopen by April 1.
