The Union City Police Department will hold sobriety check points and seat belt check points during the holiday season as part of an impaired driving campaign being conducted through Jan. 2.
Officers will be out in force on New Year’s Eve and early New Year’s Day to conduct saturation patrols to deter drunk driving and to reduce accidents.
Sobriety check points will be conducted between 10 p.m. Dec. 31 and 4 a.m. Jan. 1 in the vicinity of the National Guard armory on East Reelfoot Avenue; County Marketplace on West Reelfoot Avenue; and West Main at South Fifth streets in Union City.
By law, police must announce the locations of check points before they are set up.
