BEHIND THE SCENES
BEHIND THE SCENES — Larry Parks, transportation director for the Obion County School System, kneels amid a mountain of boxes full of canned goods and non-perishable food items Tuesday afternoon at the Obion County Bus Garage in Troy’s industrial park as he prepares for the annual sorting, packing and delivery of Chimes for Charity food baskets to less fortunate families around Obion County on Christmas Eve morning. The school system loans the use of its garage for the sorting and packing and the use of 16 to 20 school buses — along with drivers who volunteer for routes — for the delivery. In addition, many local churches and other groups volunteer to drive delivery routes. The sorting of toys and food items for the baskets began at noon today. It will be followed by the basket-packing, starting at 1 p.m. Thursday at the bus garage, and the delivery, beginning at 7 a.m. Friday. Many volunteers are needed for the three activities, with delivery route information to be available at the packing event. Chimes for Charity, in its 76th year of helping those in need, is sponsored by the Union City Jaycees and J’Cettes and supported by contributions from the community.
