2010 portion of campaign not ‘wrapped’ up for locals
Though school has been let out, the 2010 prep Christmas hoops slate is far from being “wrapped” up.
All three of the institutions that offer basketball in Obion County will return to the hardwood after Christmas in a number of classics and tournament settings Dec. 27-30.
The Obion Central guys are the first to return to the basketball court after the holiday.
OC plays the host Huntingdon at 7:30 on Dec. 27 in the Point Guard Classic.
The Rebels also play at H’don Dec. 28 against Clarksburg (2:30) before moving on to the McNairy Christmas Classic for a 3:30 game vs. Adamsville on Dec. 29.
Meanwhile, the Lady Rebels (14-2) will look to gain valuable floor time at Dyersburg — where this season’s District 13AA Tournament is to be played. Obion Central opens up at the Dyersburg Regional Hospital Christmas Tournament Dec. 28 against Gosnell, Ark. OC will continue in either the winner’s or loser’s bracket on Dec. 29-30.
The girls’ title game at the DRH Christmas Tournament is slated for Dec. 30 at 7 p.m.
The Union City boys (6-10) hit the hardwood on Dec. 28 at 1 p.m. against Christ Presbyterian Acad-emy in the Beech Holiday Tournament.
The Twister boys will enter play with a bit of momentum on their side after a victory over Lake County in their final pre-Christmas outing at the TimePiece Classic.
Depending upon the outcome on the opening day, UC will play in either the winner’s or loser’s bracket on both Dec. 29 and 30.
The title game of the Beech tourney will be at 8:30 on Dec. 30.
The Lady Twisters (6-5) also have a full plate right after Christmas.
The UC girls, who have won in each of their last four contests after a 2-5 start to the campaign against larger classification opposition, have a handful of games at the Murray Bank Lady Tiger Classic.
The first contest is against Clarksville on Dec. 28 at 1 p.m.
The Lady Twisters will also play at 8 that evening against the host team.
Union City also plays Dec. 29 (at 6 p.m.) against Clinton County.
Depending upon the outcome of those two games, the Lady Twisters will play for either first, third or fifth place on Dec. 30.
Finally, both South Fulton teams will take part in the 46th annual Martin Lions Club Christmas Tournament at Westview Dec. 28-30.
The Red Devilettes (6-4) play Liberty at 10 a.m. in opening round girls’ action on Dec. 28.
The SF boys (5-5) battle the host Chargers at 8:30 p.m. the same day.
Both South Fulton squads will play on Dec. 29 and 30 in either the winner’s or loser’s bracket with how they fare on Day 1 determining their next contests.
The girls’ title game at the Lions Club Tournament is set for 7 p.m. Dec. 30 with the boys’ finale to follow.
