The Dresden High School basketball teams finished the pre-Christmas portion of their schedule the same way they began it — with a sweep of the South Gibson Hornets.
The Dresden girls earned a 50-34 road win, while the DHS Lion boys raced to a 66-37 victory Thursday night in Medina.
DHS opened the 2010-11 season with wins over South Gibson on Nov. 18.
The games at Medina were the last for Dresden until after Christmas.
Against South Gibson, the Lady Lions used a big second quarter to take control. Dresden, leading 13-9 after a quarter, held SG in check in the second stanza. On the offensive end, the Lady Lions nearly matched their first-quarter output to lead 24-13 at halftime.
In the second half, the Lady Lions (6-5) added to the lead in each quarter, up 34-21 after three and ahead 50-34 at the final horn.
DHS was topped by Kristen Childress’ 13 points. Amy McAlpin and Alex Glisson each posted 12.
In the boys game, the Lions raced into the lead early and never looked back en route to the 50-34 win.
The Lions (8-3) more than doubled South Gibson in the first quarter, pumping in 26 points to the Hornets’ 12.
The Dresden lead grew in the second quarter as the Lions more than tripled their hosts for a 28-point halftime lead at 43-17.
Third-quarter scoring  — 17-6 — was nearly a mirror image of the second frame as Dresden carried a 60-23 lead into the fourth on the way to the 66-37 victory.
The Lions were led by Jacob Vallee’s 13 points with 12 points each by Joseph Sipes and Daniel Harris.
