An afternoon tea was recently hosted for members and prospective members of the Reelfoot Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution. The tea was an opportunity for members and prospective members to enjoy a period of fellowship and become better acquainted. The affair was hosted by Mary Coleman, Regent, and Penny Hepler in the warmth and beauty of the festively decorated home of Hepler in Union City.
According to the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution bylaws, any woman is eligible for membership who is no less than eighteen years of age and can prove lineal, blood line descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence. She must provide documentation for each statement of birth, marriage, and death. Admission to membership in the National Society of DAR is by invitation through a Chapter in your state. Several members in the Reelfoot Chapter are trained to assist those interested in completing the application.
Over 200 years ago, American Patriots fought and sacrificed for the freedoms we enjoy today. As members of DAR, through participation in the Society’s various programs and activities, members can continue this legacy by actively supporting historic preservation, promotion of education, and patriotic endeavors. For more information about the Society and membership, one may go to the NSDAR website.
