The proceeds from the recent Bagels and Bluegrass Bicycle Century Tour were dispersed recently in a check presentation ceremony at Jackson State Community College.

The college received a check for $3.500 which will be used for a full scholarship for one deserving student next year.

Checks in the amount of $500 each also went to Pinson Mounds State Park and Friends of Chickasaw State Park as a thank you for letting the ride go though the parks.

Bagels and Bluegrass is a one-day cycling event with routes in varying lengths from 14 to 104 miles. Cyclists are treated to sweeping views of southwest Tennessee countryside while riding through east Jackson, Pinson Mounds State Park and Chickasaw State Park. The safety of the ride is enhanced by the West Tennessee Amateur Radio Society who participates by tracking each cyclist and calling for assistance if needed.

The ninth annual Bagels and Bluegrass event, held on Oct. 16, attracted more than 100 cyclists. Next year’s event is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 15, 2011 at Jackson State Community College.
