Jackson State Community College is offering several new options to help students finish an associate’s degree in four semesters. The new initiatives include block scheduling, Friday only classes and Fast Track 7-week sessions.

Block scheduling will allow students to take all the courses required for an associate’s degree in one timeframe. Blocks will be offered Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. – 1:45 p.m., 11 a.m. – 4:45 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. – 9:15 p.m. Students may change blocks from semester to semester to suit their work or family schedule. Students may choose to add additional classes outside the block to expedite their completion of the degree.

The college also will offer students the opportunity to take Friday-only classes. These classes will meet just one day per week on Friday for two hours and 45 minutes. The core curriculum courses for an associate’s degree will be offered. Students can choose to take Friday classes in addition to their other schedule or try to build a Friday-only schedule allowing them to get maximum college credits with only one day on campus.

The college will continue to offer Fast Track 7-week courses next semester. These courses are condensed accelerated courses that are completed in only seven weeks allowing a student to finish two classes in the same semester only concentrating on one subject at a time. The courses will be taught using a hybrid method with half the class time on campus and half the class time online. English composition, speech and statistics will be available in the spring.

For more information on these class options or to apply for the spring semester, call the Jackson State admissions office at 731-425-8844. During holiday closures, admissions applications can be submitted online at
