R’mont finish ‘line’ tells of LR sweep
It’s not how you start, but how you finish.
Trailing after one quarter, both the Ridgemont girls and boys found solid footing in a junior high basketball twinbill with Lake Road on Monday.
The Lady Mustangs were victorious over the LR girls by a 38-30 tally after being behind by 4-2 with one quarter complete.
Meanwhile, the R’mont boys — who trailed 10-8 with one period in the books — earned a 44-34 triumph.
In other middle school action on Monday evening, South Fulton was twice a victor over Black Oak.
The Devilettes won 32-21 in the evening’s opener. The SF boys earned a 57-29 victory in the nightcap.
At Union City, the boys improved to 12-0 on the season, besting Halls 62-43.
The Lady Twisters also added another win notch to their belt, bettering their Lauderdale County opposition 32-20.
Finally, Hillcrest came back from Sharon with everyone smiling.
The Lady Cougars coasted to a 37-14 triumph, while their male counterparts had a similar 41-15 victory over the Eagles.
R’mont sweeps LR
Two players reached twin figures for both the Ridgemont girls and boys on Monday night.
In the opener, Nichole Whitson and Stella Preuett had 15 and 12 points, respectively, for the Lady Mustangs (6-5).
Meanwhile, the R’mont boys (7-4) had Jacob Sisk with 18 markers and Kaleb Byars with 12 tallies.
The Lady Generals (3-6) had Hannah Cavness as their standout with 14 points and five rebounds. Avery Partin also crashed the boards well for LR with seven rebounds.
Tyler Mosley was the top contributor for the LR boys (5-4) with 13 points and six rebounds. Lake Road’s Blake Berner also hit in twin figures with 10.
LR celebrates eighth-grade night when it hosts Hillcrest on Thursday. R’mont goes to Lake County the same evening.
SF handles Black Oak
Carmen Hutchins had a team-best 10 points for the Devilettes, who improved to 10-1 on the season.
Also, Sydney Easterwood offered nine and Sierra Coley totaled eight for SF.
Dianna Flippen finished with a diversified stat sheet for the Lady Eagles that included 12 points, 10 rebounds, six steals and four blocks. Also, Kelsey Pollock brought down five rebounds for the Black Oak ladies.
The Red Devils (6-5) were led by Cory Pinion and Anthony Cox — both with 11 points. Hunter Wade added seven for SF.
Blake Bullion had a team-best eight markers for the Eagles, while Kane Ferguson and Jonah Pittman each added six.
BO hosts Sharon on Thursday, while South Fulton goes to Martin the same night.
UC rules Halls
Four Twister players finished in double digits on Monday night.
Marcus Deberry topped that list with 15 points, while Malik Stockdale and James Mays each offered 13. Stockdale also had a team-best eight rebounds, while Donte Simpson totaled 10 tallies.
In the girls’ game, Kealie Reaves had a double-double with 12 points and 10 steals, while Chelsea Williams pulled down an impressive 15 rebounds for the Lady Twisters (5-7, 4-5 in WTAC play).
Union City returns to action on Thursday at Three Oaks.
All’s well for H’crest
The Lady Cougars (6-3) were ahead 15-2 after one quarter, 23-6 at halftime and 31-6 with three quarters complete on Monday.
Morgan Jones and Allye Payton each had eight points for the victors.
In the nightcap, Hillcrest’s Bryce Warner accounted for a team-best 14 points, coming just a marker short of outscoring Sharon on his own.
Cain Aaron had seven rebounds for the Cougars (2-7).
