Nonperishable items will be accepted to be given to Santa’s Helpers charity organization. The Rev. Robert Archie welcomes all visitors to the recognition of the Thanksgiving season. A fellowship meal will follow the 11 a.m. worship service. 7th Seal to sing 7th Seal, a local Christian rock band, well be performing an acoustic Christmas music concert at Stanley’s Chapel United Methodist Church Nov. 28, starting at 5 p.m. The church is located behind Everett-Stewart Regional Airport and Poplar Meadows Country Club near Union City. Community service set This year’s Obion County Ministerial Association Community Thanksgiving service will be held at Union City Second Baptist Church at 831 North Everett Blvd. in Union City. Dr. Roger Reid, pastor of Union City Cumberland Presbyterian Church, will be the speaker Sunday at 6 p.m. The public is encouraged to worship in a community setting that evening. An offering will be received during that evening worship service and the proceeds will go to benefit the Helping Hand Ministry in Union City. A special choir, made up of all willing singers in the community and directed by Barry Keathley, will practice at 5 p.m. at the church. All who would like to take part will be welcome, he said. Concert planned Union City First Assembly of God will be hosting a concert Sunday evening at 5. The Celebration of Faithfulness will be a celebration of the church’s being debt free for the construction of their new building. The offering at that service will be directed to Helping Hand Ministry. The Rev. Tommy Hall and the congregation invite the community to join them at 1810 Pleasant Valley Ave. Singing slated The gospel group With Willing Hearts will be featured at 6 p.m. Sunday at Woodland Mills First Baptist Church. Revival services that kicked off Wednesday night will continue at 7 tonight, Friday night and Saturday night and with the worship service at 11 a.m. Sunday. The Rev. John Clark is the evangelist. Pastor is the Rev. Rick Burton. Revival to begin Greater Bethel Church of God in Christ at 805 East Gibbs St. in Union City will be in revival this evening and Friday at 7:30 p.m. Services will continue Sunday at 11:15, with the Rev. Morris Taylor of Memphis as the evangelist. A schedule for the planned Hour of Power on Saturday will be announced at the Friday evening service. Elder Richard Johnson is pastor. The community is invited to attend. Bake sale planned St. James Episcopal Church will host the annual bake sale featuring cakes, pies, casseroles and soups Saturday at 9 a.m. at the church at 422 East Church St. The fund raiser is sponsored by Episcopal Church Women and the community is invited to attend. Day of Remembrance set Friendship Freewill Baptist Church, located at 1304 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Union City, will host a Day of Remembrance Sunday. The Rev. Fred Thomas will be the guest speaker at the 11 a.m. service. A meal will be served at the close of the service and at 2:30, the Rev. Rozelle Dotstry of Bashan Baptist Church in Rives will be the speaker and his congregation will be special guests. The community is invited to attend. Special service set St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Obion will welcome the congregation of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Kenton as special guests Sunday at 3 p.m. Timothy White of St. Paul’s will be the guest speaker. The community is invited to “join us in thanking God for His giving and forgiving through the Lord Jesus,” said the pastor, the Rev. M.L. Easley. Sale & luncheon slated A bazaar, bake sale and chili luncheon are planned for Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church on East Reelfoot Avenue in Union City. Homemade pies and cookies for Thanksgiving, handmade quilted items, jewelry and God’s Creation calendars and cards are among the items that will be available. The luncheon menu will include homemade chili, hot dogs and frappés for dine-in or take-out. The youth of the church will be on hand to serve and to paint on “prayer nails.” The church is located at 2012 East Reelfoot Ave. All proceeds go into the youth account to help finance the Mid-winter Gathering in February. Harvest Day service set Harvest Day will be celebrated Sunday at Mount Olive Baptist Church in the Crystal community near Union City. Morning worship at 11 will be followed by a fellowship meal. The Rev. Larry Nichols and the congregation invite the community to join them. Holiday bazaar set First United Pentecostal Church, located at 1105 Edwards St. in Union City, will host a holiday bazaar Saturday at 8 a.m. There will be crafts, gift items and baked and canned goods. In addition, shoppers can purchase homemade dressing and other dinner items that have been frozen for defrosting and heating for Thanksgiving dinner. A $3 pancake breakfast and a lunch menu that includes chili or beans and cornbread will also be offered. Among the items for sale will be decorative plates; scarves; totes; hair accessories; new and almost new items; toys; purses; home decor; candles; Christmas decorations; homemade coconut, chocolate, pineapple, strawberry, apple and other cakes; and pies, breads and candies. |
