When the hardware was handed out after the area championships, the Dresden Middle School cross country teams didn’t go home empty-handed.
The Dresden boys team earned the fourth-place trophy thanks in part to the second-place finish of Junior Lion Tim Huestis. The seventh-grader was just five seconds behind the top runner, Augustine’s Thomas Lankford. Lankford finished the two-mile run in twelve minutes and 12 seconds. Huestis crossed the finish line in 12:17.
The Lion runners combined for a 118. Augustine finished in first with a 65 with Trinity Christian Academy taking second place with an 85. Bolivar was third with a 104.
In addition to Huestis, two other Lions finished among the top 35 medalists. Donovan Davis finished in seventh place with a time of 12:50, while teammate Donovan Sawyer’s time of 13:37 was good enough for 21st place. A total of 174 boys ran the race.
The Dresden girls weren’t shut out of the medal category either. With 109 girls competing, Grace Finch was the first Lady Lion to cross the finish line. Her time of 15:37 was good enough for 17th place. Carly Greer was in 19th place with a time of 16:04.
The Dresden girls team finished in eighth place. Trinity Christian was first.
The Dresden cross country teams will next travel to Memphis for the Regional race on Oct. 16.
