PAYING IT FORWARD – Shelia Bell gathered with fellow Kiwanis members Bettye Giles, Misty Menee, Linda Ramsey, family and friends to donate a portable AED in memory of Bell’s father Johnny Hazelwood. The AED will be housed at the Martin Rec Complex.

The generous donation by Shelia Bell of Martin in memory of her late father Rev. Johnny Hazelwood is one that will carry on his acts of kindness for several generations. Friends and family gathered at the Martin Recreation Complex Tuesday afternoon to remember a pillar of the community and put a life-saving device into place at a park that serves countless people throughout the year. Bell recently purchased a portable AED that would be stationed at the Martin Rec Complex to serve its many guests throughout the year.

Bell said the gesture was in remembrance of her father and in honor of Martin Middle-schooler Trey Parks whose life was saved by a portable AED recently during an out-of-town football game. The Parks family also raised enough money to have two additional AEDS in place the complex. During off-seasons, a unit would be placed at the Martin Senior Adult Center.
