WALK, DON’T RUN
WALK, DON’T RUN — Union City Elementary School teacher Thel Taylor (right) was among the teachers and parents who joined dozens of children this morning along Pleasant Valley Avenue in Union City to participate in International Walk to School Day. The event kicked off at 7 this morning when students from UCES and Union City Middle School met at one of three designated locations to walk together to their respective schools. The students arrived at their schools by 7:30 a.m. and a celebration followed. The event was organized by Coordinated School Health. Union City School System Coordinated School Health director Kristen Miles said International Walk to School Day was expected to include 5,000 schools from all 50 states. Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen also proclaimed this week as Child Health Week in Tennessee, with special emphasis on the growing problem of childhood obesity.
