Residents injured Posted: Monday, October 4, 2010 3:09 pm The Messenger, October 4, 2010 Several Union City residents were injured in two separate accidents over the weekend, according to reports at the Union City Police Department. Frankie Jean Thomas, 59, of 3410 Walnut Cove, was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City’s emergency room by a family member on Friday morning. Ms. Thomas was driving directly behind Ruby N. Hicks, 78, of 1009 Honeysuckle St., Union City, who was turning right off West Reelfoot Avenue onto Everett Boulevard to go northbound. Ms. Hicks stopped her 2001 Ford XPL for oncoming traffic when Ms. Thomas, who was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Impala, struck her in the rear. Ms. Thomas, who was cited for following improperly, told police she was looking to the left to check for traffic when the accident occurred. Following an accident on Saturday evening, Isaac Rivas Ramirez, 60, of 2081 Oakshire Road, Union City, and his passenger, Maria Mandujano, 54, of the same address, were transported by ambulance to BMH-UC for possible injuries. Ramirez was traveling northbound on North Clover Street in a 1988 Olds Cutlass when he apparently ran a red light, causing a 2006 Jeep, driven by Robert S. Eason, 53, of 9071 Lakeview Drive, South Fulton, to crash into the driver’s side. According to witness accounts, Eason was going westbound on Everett Boulevard and had a green light. Ramirez received a traffic control device citation. |
