New Salem FCE Club met on Friday, Sept. 3 with Sara Simmons as hostess. President Bettie Higgs opened the meeting with the reading of the Thought for the Day, a quote from Alice Walker, “The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any.”
Devotion Leader Mary E. Bell read Psalm 23, led in prayer and sang “This Land Is Your Land.” All repeated together the Club Creed.
For the roll call, members shared a show and tell item, that included interesting antiques, crafts and travel purchases. They also shared the number of food bank items brought for We Care Ministries.
President Higgs reminded us that it was time for election of officers for 2011, and all were re-elected.
Reports included the August outing when the group went to see the restored Liberty IV, one-teacher school in Henry County, and had lunch at Cavi’s Restaurant. Four ladies enjoyed the Cotton Fashion Show in Milan, three ladies judged in the Henry County Fair and two judged in the Obion County Fair.
A date to remember is Oct. 14. County council will meet at 1:30 p.m., at the Farm Bureau Building. At 9 a.m., the ladies will make Christmas favors for a local nursing home.
Mary E. Bell led the program on “Light Bulbs.”
The adjourning thought was “I’ve always tried to go a step past wherever people expected me to end up,” by Beverly Sills.
At recreation and refreshment time, everyone enjoyed contests, with all winning prizes, and conversation. Desserts were served.
The next meeting will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 1 with Bettie and Deanna Higgs as co-hostesses.
