|Everybody got in on the action as Obion Central routed Ripley 9-0 on the prep soccer field Thursday afternoon. |
Central (9-2-1) scored six goals in the first seven minutes against the Lady Tigers, who are in their first season of competition.
The Lady Rebels pulled all of their starters with about 10 minutes remaining in the first half.
In other prep soccer action from Thursday, South Gibson blanked South Fulton 3-0 in a game that was added to the Devilettes’ schedule at midday.
SF took the match-up with the Hornets because Jackson Central-Merry pulled out of the game due to widespread sickness among its team.
The following is a roundup of Thursday’s prep soccer play as reported to The Messenger by area coaches.
OC 9, Ripley 0
Obion Central led 8-0 by halftime.
Brooke Jennings and Mandi McDaniel both scored two goals for the Lady Rebels. Additionally, Paige Hicks, Madison Turner, Taylor Baker, Baylie Boucher and Danielle Gansereit all accounted for one OC tally.
Baker combined in goal for the shutout with Carrie Wilson.
All totaled, Obion Central outshot the Lady Tigers 29-4 on Thursday.
OC hosts Trenton on Tuesday in Troy. After Tuesday’s game, OC plays at Dyer County next Thursday and against Gibson County on Oct. 12.
The soccer playoffs begin on Oct. 18.
S. Gibson 3, SF 0
South Fulton head coach Mixon Moore admitted that he probably shouldn’t have taken Thursday’s game on such short notice, but he wanted his team to log more playing time.
The Devilettes (5-7) were outshot 20-10.
South Fulton closes out its regular season on Monday against Trenton.
That game is set to kick off at 6 p.m.
