Injured Marine receives Purple Heart

Lance Corp. James Washburn of Dresden was recently injured while serving for the 0311 Infantry division of the United States Marine Corps. in Afghanistan.
After being shot in the arm and the chest, Washburn was transferred to the Bethesda Hospital in Maryland where he is recovering from his wounds.
It was there that Gen. James F. Amos bestowed the Purple Heart to Washburn last week for his service.
Washburn is a 2008 Dresden High School graduate. He is the son of Jeff and Jennifer Washburn of Dresden and Pattie and Tracy Nutting of Martin.
The Marine was among four people injured when Taliban insurgents opened fire on Washburn’s unit in front of a polling place in Nawa, Afghanistan.
Lt. Scott Fleming of Marietta, Ga., a member of Washburn’s unit, was killed during the incident.
