Union City holds off rallying Ridgemont
Union City held off a rallying Ridgemont in a 9-8 decision on Tuesday.
The Lady Twisters were ahead 9-2 after three innings, but R’mont added six more runs and fell just short of tying the game.
Other middle school softball action on Tuesday had Crockett County as a 4-0 victor over Lake Road.
No stats were reported from Black Oak’s scheduled game with Rutherford.
In other junior high softball news, the double-elimination bracket is set for the Obion County School System Tournament.
No. 1 seed South Fulton has a bye through to the opening round.
Fourth seed Ridgemont and No. 5 seed Black Oak open the event at 9 a.m. The winner of that game faces SF at noon.
The other opening round game has two-time defending champion Lake Road against Hillcrest at 10:30 a.m.
From there, the tournament will continue through the afternoon with the first game of the championship round set for 7:30 p.m.
If the loser’s bracket champion prevails in that contest, a second game for all the OCSS marbles is slated to begin at 9.

UC 9, Ridgemont 8
Winning pitcher Ashley Faught struck out seven for the Lady Twisters on Monday afternoon.
Offensively, Caroline Chism drove in three runs, while Kristian Davis chased home a pair.
Also, Faught, LaPrasha Fair and Piper Warren each had one ribbie, while Courtney Sherrill had two safeties and Ivey Westbrooks added a hit.
For R’mont, Sheridan Bugg doubled and tripled, while Landry Webster offered a single and double during Tuesday’s defeat.
Additionally, Macy Muirhead doubled for the Lady Mustangs and Macey Beeler drove in a run with a bunt single.
Keaton Cooper, Stella Preuett and Emily Moore each singled for Ridgemont.
Union City hosts Hillcrest on Thursday afternoon in the regular-season finale for both squads.
Crockett Co. 4, LR 0
The Lady Generals (9-4) had losing pitcher Paige Russell with one hit.
On the mound, Russell had two strikeouts.
LR returns to the diamond on Saturday in the Obion County School System Tournament.
