Defensive tackle Darrin Nalls, a student-athlete at The University of Tennessee at Martin, was named College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) Football Championship Subdivision national defensive lineman performer of the week. The honor was announced Monday by CFPA officials.
In addition, Nalls was tabbed as the Ohio Valley Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week.
Nalls, a 5-10, 296-pound, sophomore from Fayette, Ala., had five tackles (four solo), two sacks, two tackles-for-loss and forced two fumbles in UT Martin’s 20-10 victory over Eastern Illinois in the Ohio Valley Conference opener for both teams Saturday night at Hardy M. Graham Stadium. Both of Nalls’ forced fumbles came in the fourth quarter. The first force led to the Skyhawks adding a field goal that put UTM up by 10 points. The second forced fumble came with just over a minute to play and allowed UT Martin to run out the clock and claim the victory.
Nalls was named the Ohio Valley Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week for his effort against Eastern Illinois. The conference honor was announced Sunday afternoon by Kyle Schwartz, the league’s assistant commissioner for media relations.
