Emerson Ethridge “Tony” Jetton, 92 of Portales, N.M., a former resident of Union City and the uncle of Jim Thorpe, David Thorpe and Linda (Thorpe) Simrell, all of Union City, died in Portales, where he had been living the past six years.
A memorial service is planned for 4 p.m. Saturday at Obion County Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Bill Haynie of Tiptonville officiating.
The family requests that memorials be made to Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Tennessee, P.O. Box 868, Union City, TN 38281.
He was born Dec. 17, 1917, in Nebo and was a U.S. Navy veteran who served from 1942-45. He was a longtime employee of LaSalle Steel Co. in Lansing, Mich., and had lived there for many years before moving to Union City in 1985.
He is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Gayle and Walter Huber of Portales.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn (Williams) Jetton.
