Dresden Duplicate Bridge Club met Sept. 8 and it was simply incredible to see the number of bridge players filing in to play this game, jammed with challenges and fascinating problems.
The pairs have to have the wise judgment to handle these cards – and in every 13 cards there comes a different situation and bidding process.
When all 24 players found a comfortable seat, they set in to play bridge and eat delicacies.
There was Ho-made Mexican Salsa with doritos, carrotts and ranch dip, a tray full of cheeses and Bacon and Tomato Dip with scoops. Lucy Bogue of Milan outdid herself making dozens of Oatmeal Cookies loaded with nuts and butterscotch morsels.
Winners of this six table N/S and E/W winners were 1st – N/S Peg Mayo and JoGlasgow, 2nd – N/S Toni Pritchett and Sue Thompson; 1st E/W – Sarah Pentecost and Tom Beard, 2nd E/W – Freddye Oliver and Jack Bogue. Flight B winners were Alma Ford and Becky Bennett and Dot Beach and Bertha Henry.
Dresden Duplicate Bridge Club had two club meetings last week. Tuesday evening 16 ladies met and played a four-table Howell Movement. This week was a Club Championship game where a person wins triple points. Diana Nerren and Margie Evans were hostsses for the evening. Diana had her husband Robert charbroil delicious hambergers for the entire group and guests. Served along with letuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles and condiments, they were out of this world delicious.
Also Baked beans, chips and corn chips, with assorted drinks. The Peach Delight dessert was enjoyed. Winners of this game were 1st: Joann Campbell, Kathy Chandler, 2nd: Linda Shannon and Sarah Alexander and 3rd: Alma Ford and Sarah Pentecost.
The Wednesday Club met and had five and a half tables in play. This festive occasion was given to honor Freddye Oliver of Union City. We were celebrating her becoming a Gold Life Master. That means she has earned 2,500 points since she started playing bridge.
All the friends brought delicacies for the dining table and oh there was so much to eat all afternoon along with many desserts and a special Strawberry Cake made in her honor. Also an abundance of all sorts of drinks and coffee was enjoyed by the 22 people there.
She was also honored with a Silver Jewelry Box with three Gold Bracelets inside.
Winners of this game – a Club Championship were: 1st Overall – Sarah Pentecost and Tom Beard, 2nd OA – Minnie Bess Williams and Lois Harbour and 3rd OA – Roberta Meyer and Gene Fulks and 4th OA – Bertha Henry and Dot Beach.
