Weakley County AARP Chapter #3392 met on Aug. 18 in the fellowship hall of the First United Methodist Church in Martin with 10 members and one visitor attending. Hostess was Mrs. Gladys Simmons.
Chapter President Gladys Simmons called the meeting to order and read “Great Truths That Adults Have Learned.” After prayer requests were voiced, Marshall Hazlewood led in prayer. The “Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag” was recited in unison. The minutes were read and the financial report was given. Treasurer Jerry Seamans accepted donations to WLJT-TV, which she delivered later to the TV station. She will be accepting donations to the Weakley County Rescue Squad at the September meeting.
Second Vice President Woodrow Collier introduced Rep. Mark Maddox, who spoke about several topics including education, revenue, the budget and options for long-term care. He answered several questions. The chapter appreciates him taking the time to speak to the chapter.
Our next meeting is scheduled for Sept. 15 with We Care Ministries Director Betty Baker as our speaker. Sarah Hazlewood and. Jean Bradberry will be our hostesses.
Everyone is invited to attend our AARP Chapter meeting at the First United Methodist Church at 9:30 a.m. for refreshments and fellowship and at 10 a.m. for the meeting. wcp 9/21/10
