PRAYING AND PRAISING
Posted: Thursday, September 23, 2010 6:29 am PRAYING AND PRAISING — Members of the sign language group Singing Hands from Calvary Baptist Church in Union City were flanked by the U.S. and Christian flags and surrounded by fellow students as they performed a contemporary Christian song during a student-led See You at the Pole program early this morning in front of Obion County Central High School. The program, which started at 6:45 a.m. and was held before classes began for the day, was sponsored by the school’s Christian Students Association. This year’s theme was “Reveal,” which emphasized scripture from Matthew 6:9-13. Several students performed special music and shared scripture before they heard from guest speaker Nick Lucas, an agriculture teacher at the school. Students at several local schools held similar programs around their schools’ flagpoles early this morning prior to classes. See You at the Pole™, the global day of student prayer, began in 1990 in Texas as a grass roots movement with 10 students praying at their school. Twenty years later, millions pray on their campuses the fourth Wednesday in September. The event is simply a prayer rally where students meet at the school flagpole before school to lift up their friends, families, teachers, schools and nation to God.
