ATHENS — Fall is right around the corner and that means the folks at Mayfield Farm and Nursery are inviting visitors from across the country to explore their intricately designed corn maze located in Athens.
Sponsored by Mayfield Dairy Farms and designed as a tribute to the Boy Scouts of America’s 100-year anniversary, this year’s twisting and winding corn maze is located on eight acres and is sure to be easy for some and an adventure for others.
Through Nov. 7, Michael Mayfield is welcoming visitors to his farm and provides a great place to enjoy family outings, school trips, birthday parties, church outings and company picnics.
“We’re excited to kick off Maze Craze 2010,” said Michael Mayfield. “We have a lot of other fun events planned at the farm this year, too,” including ’mater Olympics on Saturday. “There’s no better way to help your local food bank than a tomato fight.”
In addition to the maze, the attraction includes a pumpkin patch, pumpkin chunkin’ slingshot, animated cows that children can milk by hand, a tour of an operational dairy parlor showing how cows are milked, hay rides, a corn cannon and pedal cars.
Mayfield ice cream treats, snacks and drinks are available during the week. Hot dogs, hamburgers and other concessions are sold on weekends.
“Michael has some neat attractions and great events happening down at his farm this year, so we’re really excited for him,” said Mayfield Dairy president Scottie Mayfield.
“In addition to being able to have a lot of fun, visitors to Athens have a great educational opportunity to learn about dairy farming and the farming industry just by stopping by the Mayfield Dairy Visitor Center and enjoying the day at Mayfield Farm and Nursery.”
The maze will be open during the week for groups with appointments and to the general public on weekends during the following times: Fridays 4-10 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m.-10 p.m. and Sundays 1-7 p.m. Admission is $8 per person, with children ages 2 years and younger free. Admission for school groups of 20 or more is $6 per person.
