2 UC men charged in theft

Two local men have been charged in connection with thefts from a change machine and a vending machine early Wednesday at a Union City laundromat.
Patrick Gene Minnick, 18, of 306 East Todd St., Apt. A, Union City, and James Cecil Powers, 19, of 603 North Second St., Union City, were arrested at 5 a.m. Wednesday for theft of money from the machines, as well as the vandalism to each, according to a Union City Police Department report.
A police officer reported that about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, he observed two men, acting suspiciously, enter B&R Coin Laundry at 1419 South First St. As the men were leaving in their vehicle, the officer pulled up to the front of the business and discovered a change machine had been broken into, according to the report.
The officer said he stopped the two suspects at a convenience store on West Reelfoot Avenue and identified the occupants, Minnick and Powers, as the alleged offenders.
In addition, he reported he discovered them in possession of a large sum of cash, consisting mainly of $1 and $5 bills, and alleged burglary tools.
According to police reports, the business owner discovered about 5 a.m. that someone had broken into a drink machine as well as the change machine.
