A Union City man has been charged with filing a false report following a weekend shooting incident.
Neal Ray Kimmons, 29, of 425 South Ury St. was arrested at 2:20 p.m. Wednesday on charges of filing a false report and unlawful possession of a weapon, according to a Union City Police Department report.
Kimmons sustained a gunshot wound in an incident that occurred Sunday morning.
Police responded just before 9 a.m. to a call of a man having been shot. Upon arrival at the Ury Street address, officers were told by Tabitha Chambers of 425 South Ury St. that Kimmons, identified as her ex-husband, had walked into her apartment with some type of cloth around his leg and indicated he’d been shot.
Kimmons told police he did not know who shot him or where it happened, according to the initial report.
He was transported from the scene by ambulance and was flown to a Jackson hospital for treatment.
However, additional investigation this week by police determined the injury Kimmons sustained apparently was self-inflicted, based on statements from witnesses, resulting in the charges against him.
