The wildflowers at Big Cypress Tree State Natural Area are still in full bloom as butterflies gather their bounty each day. Park manager Bill McCall has been busy maintaining the grounds of the park that houses a variety of wildflowers beds.
He has also mowed perfect paths for butterfly enthusiasts in the thistle field that has bursted with blooms. While the work throughout the year is made to accommodate wildlife watchers, amateur photographers and families enjoying the peace and serenity of the state park, preparations are now being made for the annual Big Cypress Tree Fall Festival set for Oct. 16. The event will begin at 9 a.m. and last until 3 p.m.
Arts, crafts and good food will be available. CurreyKorn, a family band from Columbia, Mo. will provide entertainment that day. Scott Shupe will present “The World of Reptiles” program and Reelfoot Lake representatives will feature their “Birds of Prey.” Admission to the annual event is free. The State Natural Area is located outside of Greenfield.
