Shooting under investigation by UC police

A weekend shooting incident remains under investigation by Union City police.

Neal Ray Kimmons, 29, of 425 South Ury St., Union City, sustained a gunshot wound in an incident that occurred Sunday morning, according to a Union City Police Department report.

Police responded just before 9 a.m. to a 911 call of a man having been shot. Upon arrival at the Ury Street address, officers were told by Tabitha Chambers of 425 South Ury St. that Kimmons, identified as her ex-husband, had walked into her apartment with some type of cloth around his leg and indicated he’d been shot. She called 911.

Ms. Chambers told police she did not know where the incident occurred.

Kimmons told police he did not know who shot him or where it happened, according to the report.

He was transported from the scene by ambulance and was flown to a Jackson hospital for treatment.

Police said the incident did not occur at 425 South Ury St., according to Ms. Chambers and another person who was at the residence when Kimmons arrived there. Police are continuing their investigation today.
