Skyhawk turnovers
lead to La. defeat

HAMMOND, La. (AP) — Southeastern Louisiana had four interceptions, including one for a touchdown by Tommy Connors, in a 24-10 win over UT Martin on Saturday night.
The Lions (1-1) gave up 525 yards of offense, but five Skyhawks’ turnovers, including a fumble, helped them win the first meeting between the schools since 1981.
Southeastern Louisiana opened up a 17-0 lead thanks to big runs by Zeke Jones and Sam Fairley, who had 108 rushing yards apiece.
Jones, who had 17 carries, opened the scoring on a 39-yard touchdown run. Fairley then ran one of his 15 carries for a 26-yard score in the second quarter. Seth Sebastian capped the first-half scoring on a 37-yard field goal for a 17-0 Lions’ lead.
The Skyhawks (0-2) were paced by McKenzie product Derek Carr with 390 yards on 20-of-41 passing. Jason McNair had 132 yards on 24 carries for UTM.

Scheible does much
as SEMO bests Racers

MURRAY (AP) — Matt Scheible ran for a career-high 134 yards and threw for 140 yards and a touchdown to lead Southeast Missouri to a 30-17 win over Murray State on Saturday night.
The Redhawks (1-1, 1-0 Ohio Valley Conference) scored 20 points in the second half en route to their first win in a conference opener since 2006.
Drew Geldbach’s 47-yard field goal gave Southeast Missouri a 13-10 edge early in the second half, but Murray State regained the lead on Duane Brady’s 1-yard plunge.
Scheible threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Brian Brown on third-and-goal for a 20-17 lead, then his 60-yard run sparked the next drive, which ended with a field goal.
Union City product Josh Nicks, now at SEMO, saw action on special teams.
Henry Harris, who finished with 113 yards, scored the final touchdown on a 33-yard run to cap an 86-yard drive.
Jeff Ehrhardt was 38-for-54 for 245 yards and one touchdown with one interception for Murray State (0-2, 0-1).

Haskins gets four runs
in APSU loss at MTSU

MURFREESBORO (AP) — Phillip Tanner rushed for three touchdowns and Middle Tennessee rolled up 654 yards of total offense to beat Austin Peay 56-33 on Saturday night.
Tanner had 127 of the Blue Raiders’ 353 yards on the ground as the teams played for the first time since 1997. Quarterback Jeff Murphy was 23-for-36 for 301 yards passing, but scored his only touchdown on an 11-yard run.
Middle Tennessee (1-1), coming off a 24-17 loss to Minnesota, held a 35-17 halftime lead.
The Governors made it 42-33 with 2:51 left in the third quarter on a 16-yard fumble return by Jeremy Ross, but the two-point conversion failed.
MTSU’s D.D. Kyles scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns to seal the win.
Jake Ryan was 16-for-40 for 224 yards and two touchdowns for Austin Peay (1-1). Obion Central product and current Governor Patrick Haskins carried the pigskin four times for minus-three yards.
